In modern foundries, rapid molten iron analysis is an important part of furnace and process control. Before casting, foundry operators need reliable information about the condition of molten iron, including carbon content, silicon content and carbon equivalent (CEL).
A carbon silicon analyzer provides this information by analyzing the cooling and solidification behavior of a molten iron sample. The sampling cup is therefore not simply a container. It is an important consumable that directly participates in the thermal analysis process.
CYY-LK series carbon silicon analyzers, including the CYY-LK2 and CYY-LK7 related models, are designed for rapid analysis of molten cast iron. The CYY-CE series probe cups are developed as matching consumables for this type of front-furnace thermal analysis application.
International foundry terminology commonly includes thermal analysis cup, carbon cup, C.E. cup, sampling cup and disposable measuring cup. Different cup structures and tellurium configurations are used according to the analysis objective and analyzer design.
A carbon silicon analyzer probe cup is a refractory sampling cup used to receive a small quantity of molten iron from a furnace, ladle or other molten-metal source.
The sample is poured into the cup and its temperature change during cooling and solidification is monitored by the analyzer. The resulting cooling curve provides the basis for calculating metallurgical parameters such as:
Carbon Equivalent (CEL)
Carbon Content (C%)
Silicon Content (Si%)
Liquidus Temperature (TL)
Undercooling-related parameters
Other calculated properties depending on the analyzer model
For CYY-LK2、CYY-LK7, the thermal analysis method is based on the cooling curve of molten iron. The instrument can also provide estimated tensile strength and Brinell hardness for applicable unalloyed cast iron conditions.
This makes the probe cup + analyzer + sampling procedure a complete measurement process rather than an isolated consumable.
CYY supplies three main round probe cup configurations for different purchasing requirements and analyzer applications.
The three models have the same basic purpose—receiving a molten iron sample for thermal analysis—but differ in shell construction, tellurium configuration, insulation and positioning.
| Model | Product Name | Main Configuration | Recommended Positioning |
|---|---|---|---|
| CYY-CE1 | High-Leg Tellurium CE Probe Cup | Orange sand shell, high-leg round structure, internal tellurium block | High-leg cup applications and compatible analyzer setups |
| CYY-CE2 | Premium Insulated Tellurium CE Probe Cup | Gray-green sand shell, tellurium particles, full insulation coating | Recommended premium CYY-LK series cup |
| CYY-CE3 | Economy Tellurium CE Probe Cup | Dark-green shell, tellurium particles, no full coating | Cost-sensitive standard applications |

CYY-CE2 is our recommended round probe cup for CYY carbon silicon analyzer applications.
The cup uses a gray-green sand shell and contains tellurium particles. The external surface is covered with a complete insulating coating.
Compared with a basic low-cost cup, the CYY-CE2 is designed as a more controlled and stable consumable for routine production analysis.
The cup has a conventional round height rather than a high-leg structure and has been used with CYY carbon silicon analyzer applications after years of domestic production and sales experience.
For customers purchasing CYY-LK2, CYY-LK7 or compatible CYY front-furnace carbon silicon analyzers, this is the round cup configuration we normally recommend when the customer wants a balance of stability, repeatability and cost.

The thermal analysis cup influences the thermal environment experienced by the molten iron sample.
Factors such as:
cup material
cup geometry
sample volume
internal tellurium configuration
insulation
thermocouple positioning
cup holder
pouring technique
can affect the cooling curve.
For this reason, a foundry should avoid changing between completely different cup constructions without checking the analyzer calibration and application.
Established thermal-analysis suppliers also classify cups according to geometry, filling material and application.
For example, international thermal-analysis product ranges include cylindrical cups with plain or tellurium filling and other geometries for quality-control applications.
The CYY-CE series can be used as consumables for front-furnace molten iron analysis applications.
Typical workflow:
Molten Iron → Sampling Cup → Cooling Curve → Thermal Analysis → CEL / C% / Si% → Process Decision
The operator takes a representative molten iron sample and pours it into the prepared cup. The CYY analyzer records the temperature change during cooling and solidification and calculates the applicable analytical values.
For production foundries, this provides a practical way to obtain rapid process information directly near the furnace rather than waiting for laboratory analysis.
If you are ordering cups for a CYY analyzer, we recommend providing:
Analyzer model
Existing cup photo
Cup packaging label
Analyzer connection or cup-holder photo
Approximate cup dimensions if available
Our sales and technical team can then confirm the most appropriate cup configuration.
For CYY-LK2 / CYY-LK7 routine production use: CYY-CE2
For high-leg compatible configurations: CYY-CE1
For cost-sensitive standard applications: CYY-CE3
CYY is not only an analyzer manufacturer. We also provide consumables designed around practical foundry applications.
Our product range can be developed into a complete consumable family including:
CE Probe Cups
Carbon Silicon Analyzer Cups
Thermal Analysis Cups
SG / Nodularity Analysis Cups
